Severely ‘morning sick’ woman caught on Greek holiday

If you’ve ever known anyone who’s suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG), a severe type of morning sickness, you’d know that getting around ain’t that easy. So getting to the other side of the world, on a holiday to Greece, would be virtually impossible, right?

A woman recently posted on parenting forum Mumsnet that she saw photos of a work colleague on Facebook living it up in Greece, “eating, swimming in the sea, playing volleyball”.

The problem was that this particular colleague had been clinically diagnosed with HG, and was supposed to be at home cradling her illness.

According to News Corp, the woman, who was 14 weeks pregnant, had been off work for five weeks after receiving medical certificates from her doctor.

“My friend has put some pictures on Facebook this morning of her Greek holiday she’s still on, and my work colleague is in most of them — sunbathing, eating, swimming in the sea, playing volleyball. She has obviously blocked me as she is tagged in the pictures but her name is unclickable,” the poster said.

“I’m gonna sound like a complete cow,” said the woman, “but I think she’s faking her sickness”.

“She’s on full pay from work and we’re having to pay an agency temp to cover her work too. It’s a small company that is struggling and I doubt we’re going to make any profit this month due to this.”

When asking forum readers whether she should dob in the woman, replies were pretty one-sided.

“I had hyperemesis with dd [darling daughter],” one commenter wrote.

“Getting on a flight? Volleyball? I couldn’t get out of bed without being sick. I went down to six-and-a-half stone (41kg) and had to have iron injections. This woman may have had morning sickness, but clearly a very mild case indeed of hyperemesis.”

Many others followed this line, while some urged the woman to out her colleague to her boss.

“Take screenshots and show the boss,” said one commenter.

“People doing things like this are a big part of the reason why sick pay is s**t and women’s pregnancy symptoms are doubted imo [in my opinion]. It’s her own fault.”

The woman apparently went on to show her photos to her boss…
