The world’s top airline and hotel loyalty programs have been named at the prestigious Freddies, with an Aussie airline cleaning up in the Middle East and Asia/Oceania region.
With most of the world’s top airlines hailing from the East Asian of Gulf regions, you’d expect there to be some pretty stiff competition when it comes to ever-important loyalty programs.
But the relatively smaller operation of Virgin Australia has claimed top honours in the field, picking up Program of the Year, Best Elite Program, Best Customer Service and Best Redemption Ability, all for its Velocity program.
Presented at a glitzy ceremony in Seattle’s Museum of Flight, the awards for the Mid East and APAC region also recognized IHG Rewards Club for Program of the Year and Best Promotion, Starwood – Starwood Preferred Guest for Best Elite Program, and Accor Hotels – Le Club Accorhotels for Best Customer Service and Best Redemption Ability.
In the Americas, Southwest Airlines’ Rapid Rewards and Marriott Hotels – Marriott Rewards proved most popular, while Norwegian Air Norwegian Reward, Aeroflot Bonus and Accor took home the spoils in Europe.
Commencing in 1988, the Freddies have become the highest profile, member-generated awards in the travel loyalty industry.
