With most Australians of the opinion that marrying and honeymooning is cheaper overseas, it stands to reason that weddings abroad are only getting more popular. But where exactly are Aussies choosing to tie the knot, or take off on their honeymoon?
According to a study by search engine KAYAK.com.au, the most popular destination for a wedding abroad is Bali, followed by Tokyo, New Delhi, London, Los Angeles and surprise entry, Kathmandu. Rounding out the top ten destinations were Singapore, Bangkok, Auckland and Phuket.
But when it comes to the most trending destinations, Japanese capital Tokyo tops all, experiencing 169% year-on-year* growth.
Proving their growing ever-growing popularity among couples, eight of the top ten most trending wedding/honeymoon destinations were in Asia, with the only exceptions London (5th) and Auckland (9th).
On the domestic front, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane were revealed as the top cities to travel to for weddings, while the Sunshine Coast, Darwin and Perth were the biggest movers among local destinations, with all three cities experiencing over 100% year-on-year growth.
