When you’re on safari,it should go without saying to keep your appendages inside the vehicle at all times. But highly skilled and experienced rangers will tell you anyway.
Still, some people don’t seem to get it – even when they’re around fast, potentially deadly predators.
One such tourist was filmed recently not only sticking his arm out of a safari jeep in South Africa, but foolishly petting a lion as well.
The footage, which has been viewed more than 600,000 times on YouTube, shows the visitor stroking the animal through a window before the lion turns around and lets out a sudden roar. The rattled passenger then quickly shuts the window.
Needless to say, the tourist, whose ‘friend’ in the video (embarrassingly) sounds Australian, has been lambasted for his actions.
“Only those who work in the wild know the speed of a lion and it could have torn the arm off the person touching it,” South African safari ranger Naas Smit told the Sun.
“It would have the power to pull that tourist straight out of that window and kill them instantly in front of their friends.
“It was [an] incredibly stupid thing to do. They were lucky to get away with it.
“I just have to shake my head when I see people behaving like this and they deserve all they get.”
