Tourist who drifted to sea on giant floatie rescued

Summer just isn’t summer without floaties. Our childhood pool was often full of more giant inflatable flamingoes and sharks than it was people. But maybe floaties are best kept for the pool rather than the beach.

Just asked the poor woman who floated away from a beach in Crete on the back of giant inflatable paddle pop.

The wind and currents took the 55-year-old Russian woman six nautical miles off the north of the island late last week, Greek Reporter stated.

The woman was staying with family in a hotel in Adelianos Kampos near the town of Rethymno.

After being reported missing, a massive land and sea operation was launched before she was eventually spotted by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (also known as Frontex).

The dramatic rescue was captured on camera by Frontex and it would probably be fair to say the giant inflatable (in rainbow colours of course) looks a little out of place.
