Two surprising Aussie spots making big waves this NYE

With the holiday season just around the corner, New Year’s Eve plans are well and truly underway. But aside from the big names that lure Aussies for the big event, which spots are making an especially large splash this year?

According to Airbnb data, the most trending NYE destination for Aussie travellers (based on year-on-year booking growth) is the small hamlet of Avoca Beach, NSW.

Located on the state’s Central Coast, Avoca Beach pipped Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Launceston (Tasmania), Perth (WA) and Batemans Bay (NSW) as the biggest mover in NYE bookings this year across the accommodation platform.

Overall, the most booked Airbnb destinations in Australia for the month of December are Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, and Hobart.

But only one Aussie city made the list of the 20 most trending destinations for travellers worldwide, and that’s the Gold Coast, which despite experiencing a post-Commonwealth Games slump, is clearly on the radars of global travellers this NYE.
