When Sydney went Irish

You could almost imagine you were in a dark cosy bar in the heart of Dublin at yesterday’s St Patrick’s Day event hosted by Tourism Ireland. Sydney’s heritage listed Marble Bar in the Hilton was the perfect venue to sink a few Guinness’ and listen to some stirring Irish music.

The weather even played along with a typically Irish downpour but did nothing to dampen the Irish cheer.

Sofia Hansson, Tourism Ireland’s regional director for Australia and New Zealand, thanked the assembled guests and expressed her delight at the continuing growth from the Australian market.

With an anticipated 6% growth this year off the back of a record 2018, Australia continues to be a very important market for Ireland. Currently running 10th in volume and 6th in terms of spend.... Aussies stay longer and spend more!

Sofia explained that the focus for next year will be on season extension and regional growth: “We will be actively promoting off peak and off the beaten track holidays and creating new icons,” she said.

With the launch of their new global campaign ‘Fill your heart with Ireland’ I’m sure this beautiful destination, that has such strong emotional connections for so many Australians, will continue to be a firm favourite.
