Which Aussie tourists can go to Japan this month?

The Japanese government will trial accepting small groups of fully vaccinated tourists from just four countries. And Australia is one of them.

The United States, Singapore and Thailand will also be included in the trial which will focus on package tours managed by Japanese travel agencies, Nikkei Asia reported.

Participants will need to be triple vaccinated, carry insurance and will be accompanied by Japanese travel agents on fixed itineraries.

Visitors will also have to submit a negative Covid test taken 72 hours before departure and test again upon arrival.

A government spokesperson said the government is considering allowing in 50 tourists for the trial package tours but the number is yet to be decided.

The trial will result in guidelines for businesses on how to handle foreign arrivals.

"We will proceed with the trial project while considering the safety and security of the places entrants will go," the country’s minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said.
