‘YMCA!’ Village People to headline G Adventures’ GX Summit

The tour operator’s community tourism initiative will bring influencers and travel experts together to see the force for good tourism can provide.

Community tourism allows travellers to contribute to the livelihoods of locals.

G Adventures has announced the line-up for its maiden ‘GX’ Summit in Peru, which will dovetail into the first World Community Tourism Summit taking place in Peru later this month.

More than 30 Australian travel advisors will join G Adventures staff, suppliers and fellow travellers at the week-long series of events, which begins on 22 September and culminates on World Tourism Day on the 27th, headlined by a performance from iconic 70’s pop group, The Village People.

The GX Summit will feature a packed schedule of informative discussions and keynote presentations on the positive impact tourism has on local communities around the world and how travel can be a force for good, giving back to destinations rather than simply contributing to the steady destruction of sacred landscapes.

Talks will feature international travel and media personalities including Australian presenter Tyson Mayr, eco-explorer Mario Rigby and travel author, Jessica Nabongo among a line-up of influential speakers and activists.

GX is being co-hosted by community outreach and non-profit organisation, Planeterra, which works to educate about the benefits tourism can bring to small communities worldwide and is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023.

G Adventures and Planeterra Founder, Bruce Poon Tip, said GX will be a groundbreaking and life-changing event for all guests.

“This event is going to be a celebration like no other. I can’t wait to show our community of communities just how transformative travel can be when it’s done right - not just for local people, but also for our guests as they see what a pivotal role they play in empowering people working in the tourism sector,” Poon Tip said.

“We’ve been showcasing the beautiful concept of community tourism to our travellers for years, and I can’t wait to welcome our guests to Peru to also show them what it's all about, and to have a lot of fun at the same time.

“And what better way to wrap up the first World Community Tourism Summit than with an act that stands for diversity and inclusion and bringing different communities together, the iconic Village People,” Poon Tip added.
