A passenger caused a seven-hour delay to a flight departing Manchester Airport after opening a rear emergency exit she had reportedly mistaken for a lavatory door.
By opening the exit door of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane, an emergency chute was deployed and the flight to Islamabad was postponed.
According to the Manchester Evening News (MEN), the plane was ready to push back from the terminal when the incident occurred, an airport spokeswoman said.
PIA said that 40 passengers were offloaded from flight PK702 during the incident, CNN reported, and that all passengers were safe.
Airport officials said that reports the plane was on the runway when the accident happened were incorrect, while a PIA spokesperson told Pakistan-based The Express Tribune that 'there was no threat of any kind'.
Engineers were on the scene shortly after the incident.
