Qatar Airways has been declared the world’s best airline, pushing usual front runner Air New Zealand into second place. And it’s all because of COVID-19.
AirlineRatings.com credited Qatar Airways for its “commitment to keep the world’s air routes open during COVID-19”. This, when coupled with the airline’s new products and good service saw Qatar Airways named 2021 Airline of the Year.
“The airline has a host of industry firsts,” AirlineRatings.com reports.
“First to complete IATA’s important IOSA safety audit, first to be fully COVID audited and compliant by both AirlineRatings and Skytrax, and amongst the first to trial IATA’s COVID Safe Travel Pass.”
Air New Zealand (which has come out on top six times over the past several years), may have been dethroned by Qatar Airways, still took out Best Long-Haul Airline Pacific, Best Premium Economy, and Best Economy.
Singapore Airlines came in third and our own Qantas, fourth.
Qantas also one Best Lounges and Best Domestic Service, while its regional arm Qantaslink picked up Best Regional Airline.
Jetstar was awarded Best Low-Cost Airline for the Asia-Pacific region.
