A new codeshare agreement has been signed between Aircalin and Air Caledonie, New Caledonia’s domestic airline.
Under the deal, Aircalin will be able to offer the New Caledonian domestic network for sale while customers will be able to purchase Air Caledonie flights from an international destination under an Aircalin flight number.
It’s hoped the landmark partnership will give new visibility to New Caledonia’s domestic destinations in international markets.
It also represents an opportunity for the tourism industry in New Caledonia and in particular the Islands, with the upcoming opening of the Intercontinental Lifou Wadra Bay resort.
“This codeshare agreement is part of the company’s overall plan for the resumption of tourism activity with the intention to mobilise the whole sector for the development of tourist flows,” said Didier Tappero, Aircalin’s CEO.
A period of implementation is now committed to making the agreement effective and thus having domestic flights available for sale in the first quarter of 2023.
“This step is also part of a more global project to eventually provide service to Tontouta airport with an adapted fleet, directly connected to Aircalin’s international flights, to offer journeys either directly to the islands or even to the mainland, for example to Poé,” said Daniel Houmbouy, Air Caledonie’s General Manager.
