Dubai International Airport (DXB) has become the first airport in the world to host a resident DJ.
Well-known British dance music duo Hollaphonic commenced its month-long residency on the weekend, and the long-term partnership with the airport will see the act curate the hub’s long-running musicDXB programme, Gulf News reported.
“Music influences our mood and even more so when we travel. Right now, on average one in five people are walking around the airport with headphones on... so partnering with DXB seemed as natural as Mariah hitting a high note,” said Olly Wood, who along with Greg Stainer make up the duo.
Based in Dubai, Hollaphonic was the first dance music act to sign to a major record label in the Middle East.
“We used to host regular entertainment performances as part of musicDXB, around the airport, we decided to take it a notch higher by partnering with the DJ duo Hollaphonic,” Dubai Airports brand director Matt Horobin said.
According to Mr Horobin, decks have been set up across the airport as the venue will change from week to week based on traffic and seasonality.
So the next time you’re travelling through DXB, keep your eyes, and especially ears, open.
