‘Axed’ bridesmaid finds solace in airline, internet

After being suddenly dumped as a bridesmaid for the upcoming wedding of her ‘pal’, American Courtney Duffy was peeved. Understandably.

Ms Duffy had already bought a trans-continental ticket to the wedding, and the bride-to-be had even asked her to mail back her bridesmaid outfit - a jumpsuit, no less - “so another girl could fill in and wear it”, she said on Twitter.

Venting her frustration, and in an attempt to salvage something from a terrible situation, the MBA Dartmouth Business School candidate begged her airline, JetBlue, to refund her the price of two ‘X-C’ (cross-country) tickets.

“Booked my X-C flights for a wedding, then was asked ‘to relinquish’ my “duties as a bridesmaid,’” she tweeted.

“I am laughing & crying & must avoid this wedding at all costs. Pls help?”

Ms Duffy

To its credit, the carrier responded by waiving her cancellation fees and offering her a voucher, the New York Post reported.

Other Twitter users were equally sympathetic, with one supporter labelling her friend “Bridezilla”.

“Bridesmaids are wearing jumpsuits?” another said.

Duffy tweeted that she “did not expect this response”.

“Weddings have gotten totally out of control … I’m hoping this threat reminds future lovebirds and bridal parties to keep their feet on the ground :)”
