Batik Air adds its low-cost metal to busy Auckland to Perth route

The Malaysian airline will launch direct services between the two cities with onward connections to Southeast Asia.

Batik Air will add a six-times weekly service between Perth and Auckland.

Malaysian airline Batik Air will compete with Air New Zealand on the cross-country Perth to Auckland flight route, announcing its entry into the market from 24 August 2023.

The low-cost carrier, once known as Malindo Air, will fly between the two cities six times weekly using a Boeing 737-800 jet, with flights offering onward connections to Bali and Kuala Lumpur.

Flight OD196 will take off from Auckland at 7am six times weekly, touching down in Perth at 10:40am local time. After a refuelling stop, the flight will continue on to Kuala Lumpur, landing at 6:40pm. Connections to Bali will be operated by Batik Air Indonesia.

"We are delighted to finally expand our footprint to Auckland as part of our network growth aspiration, said Batik Air Group Strategy Director, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy.

“Crossing the borders to the continent of Australia and New Zealand has always been part of our 10-year plan and we could not have been more elated to celebrate the mark of our 10th year anniversary, with Auckland being the 45th destination on our route map.

“With the rapid hike of global travel demand, we can assure competitive fares and convenient access across four nations. I trust this would not only benefit leisure travels but also business travels alike with affordable fares for exceptional services," Muthy added.
