One of the world’s top airlines, Emirates, is getting ready to launch a new premium economy service from 2020.
Already adopted by several airlines including Qantas, ANA and British Airways, the new class will be available on the Airbus A380s the carrier ordered in January this year, Emirates’ President Sir Tim Clark said in a company podcast on its website.
According to Clark, the first six of the 20 A380s the airline ordered, will be delivered in 2020.
Emirates will also take up an option to buy 16 more of the superjumbos.
“We will be installing premium economy into those and it will be an Emirates premium economy, so it will be special,” Clark said.
According to Reuters, Emirates has been mulling the addition of a premium economy service since at least 2016, when lower oil prices put pressure on Middle East travel demand.
But the introduction of the class, which has proven a hit with business travellers and those just looking for a more comfortable experience, could help EK lure higher spending travellers and position it well next to its rivals.
What do you think of the move? And what are your experiences flying premium economy?
