Fiji Airways begins year-round service to Vancouver

The newest destination on the Bula carrier’s network gives Australians a chance to add some island time to their Canadian holiday.

Fiji Airways is now flying twice weekly between Fiji and Canada.

Australian travellers now have a new way to reach Canada after Fiji Airways commenced its newest year-round service to North America this past weekend.

The new twice-weekly service from Nadi to Vancouver departs on Monday and Friday each week, with capacity to increase services available if demand dictates.

The 11-hour Airbus A330 direct flight takes off from Fiji at 10:15pm, landing in the western Canadian hub at 1:20pm on the same day. The return service pushes back at 9:40pm, touching down two days later at 5:30am.

Canadians were treated to a warm greeting upon the arrival of the inaugural flight, with traditional Fijian warriors performing a tribal war dance in the airport terminal.

Services connect well to and from Sydney and Melbourne with around 3-3.5 hours between flights in both directions, while guests from Brisbane will spend five hours between flights outbound and less than three hours on the return journey.

Canadians were greeted by traditional Fijian warriors upon the maiden flight's arrival.

Fiji Airways CEO Andre Viljoen said Australians are also invited to take advantage of a few days in Fiji as an ideal stopover destination to and from Canada.

“With the holiday season fast approaching, the timing of our newest route could not be better,” Viljoen said.

“We can now connect Aussies to Canada for the holiday season and invite them to warm up in tropical Fiji with a convenient stopover holiday before returning to Australia well rested and relaxed.

“In the lead up to the launch of the flights, more and more Australians have been showing an interest in the new service, indicating that there is demand which Fiji Airways can tap into.

“As we continue to expand our network and launch new routes, we are creating more and more pathways for Australians to access popular travel destinations, cementing Fiji as a convenient connection or stopover destination to further afield,” Viljoen added.
