Qantas launches direct flights between Melbourne and Jakarta

The new route is the third new international route launched from the Victorian capital since borders reopened.

Qantas will launch direct flights from Melbourne to Jakarta in April 2023.

Direct flights between Melbourne and Jakarta will be available with Qantas from April, marking the third new international route launched by the national carrier post-pandemic after Delhi and Dallas Fort Worth – ADD LINK.

The Flying Kangaroo will link the Victorian and Indonesian capitals with a three-times weekly service beginning from 16 April. Flights are currently subject to regulatory and government approval.

Special launch fares starting from $899 return are now on sale to celebrate the new service, available until 7 February 2023.

QF39 will set off from Tullamarine just after 3pm on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday each week, touching down in Jakarta at 7:15pm local time.

The new route will be operated by Qantas’ Airbus A330 twin-aisle aircraft, offering 243 economy class seats and 28 in business class.

Melbourne’s new link to Jakarta joins the existing daily service from Sydney, taking Qantas’ flights from Australia to the Indonesian capital to ten weekly.

Qantas Domestic and International CEO, Andrew David, said the airline was seeing strong and ongoing demand for travel to and from Melbourne.

“We expect these flights to be popular with Victoria’s large Indonesian expat community wanting to visit family and friends back home as well as offering a new gateway for travellers looking to explore the region,” David said.

“Indonesia is a rapidly growing economy and home to more than 270 million people. As one of Australia’s closest neighbours, these new flights will also help support the growing trade and investment links between our two countries.
