From 1 March, flight SA281 will depart Perth at 2.30pm, arriving in Johannesburg at approximately 7.15pm the same day.

The new timetable replaces the current red-eye service, which departs Perth at 11.45pm and arrives in Johannesburg at 4.30am the next day.

Tim Clyde Smith, Regional General Manager - Asia Pacific said the national carrier had "for some time, been looking at options to ensure the continued success of the Perth to Johannesburg route".

“The new schedule will improve the efficiency of our fleet by operating one aircraft as opposed to two currently flying on this route," Mr Smith remarked.

"The optimisation of this flight makes commercial sense thus ensuring the longevity of the route and improving efficiency for our valued customers."

“We understand that this may cause some inconvenience for our travel partners in the short term, but thank them for their continued support and understanding that these measures will help ensure the long term success of our national carrier.”
