Thanks to COVID-19, many of us lost our jobs, were stood down at least once or are still working reduced hours ever since state and national borders closed.
But as NSW quickly approaches its target of 80% fully vaccination people aged 16 years and up, and travel restrictions are eased, it looks like those jobs are coming back.
According to job listing site SEEK’s latest employment report, while national job ad volumes have increased by 6% month on month (the first month on month growth in job ads since April 2021), in NSW, job ads have increased by more 20%.
Tourism and hospitality job ads in NSW jumped 130% month on month, SEEK managing director Kendra Banks said.
“Factors contributing to this growth include replacing roles which were lost, preparing for the end of restrictions, and getting ready for the summer holiday period.”
But according to Banks, applications per ad levels remain low.
“Many hirers are still finding it difficult to recruit,” Banks said.
“Month on month applications per job ad are down slightly by 0.8% nationally and remain significantly below pre-pandemic levels, down by 34.9% when comparing September 2021 to September 2019.
“Australians continue to be cautious when considering their next career move.”
