Audio has emerged of the moment a Qantas flight heading to Perth declared emergency due to an issue with one of its engines.

The Qantas Airbus A330-200, registration VH-EBA is the oldest aircraft in the airline’s fleet and was operating Flight QF781 from Melbourne to Perth when the incident happened.

A loud bang was heard on board of the aircraft as it began its descent into the city.

In this audio, the crew can be heard declaring PAN PAN PAN reporting a left engine failure.

Passengers from onboard the flight told media the crew onboard kept everyone informed during the incident and remained calm.

In one video, passengers appear to laugh when the captain tells them he would be spending the evening “doing a lot of paperwork.”
