Many a tear has been shed across the ditch as cherished airline mascot ‘Dave the Goose’ heads to Hollywood to shoot for fame and fortune.

Dave, voiced by Australian actor Bryan Brown, has been the star of Air New Zealand’s award-winning “Better way to fly” campaign since 2016.

He appeared in a flock of advertisements, which saw him spread his wings in Los Angeles, Canada and New Zealand. He made no shortage of friends made along the way, including ‘Pete the Kiwi’ (voiced by Sam Neill).

“Dave brings out my inner goose. I’m going to miss him but know he’s going to hit the heights in his new career,” said Brown.

Kathryn O’Brien, Air New Zealand General Manager of Australia, said Dave had been an icon of their ads for eight years and will be missed by his Kiwi cousins.

“Dave the Goose has been an integral member of the Air New Zealand crew, answering the call without a honk when asked to highlight our international network to Australian travellers,” she added.

“As we bid farewell to Dave, we thank him for embodying the spirit of adventure and mateship, and reminisce on the times he captivated our Aussie passengers.

“Dave will always have a place in our hearts, we wish him good luck and nothing but clear skies in his pursuit of stardom.”
