A man has been fined in court after urinating on the seats of a Jetstar flight.

Jason Rangi’s actions were described as ‘despicable’ at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man was sentenced to one month imprisonment, which was suspended for six months,  and fined $1,000.

The incident happened on board a flight from the Gold Coast to Melbourne on December 18. Rangi was seen vaping and was asked to stop by the crew.

But instead of complying with regulations, he stood up, removed his pants, and urinated on nearby seats.

Rangi’s defence lawyer said her client struggled with alcohol abuse and had an addiction to painkillers following a car accident.

The lawyer said Rangi, who pleaded guilty, is currently homeless and unemployed.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse described Rangi’s actions as ‘hideous.’

‘My God, Mr Rangi, your behaviour is despicable – shameful in the extreme, disrespectful, inconsiderate and ugly,’ Dowse said.

‘(It’s) revolting, really revolting. Why should everyone else have to put up with that?’
