IF YOU’RE ever going to do an epic road trip you might as well do it in style, right?

Bentley Motors is offering a global calendar of carefully curated ‘Extraordinary Journeys.’

The travel series has been designed to provide the opportunity to experience once-in-a-lifetime road trips that will offer exclusive access to the very best of local cuisine, design, architecture and wellness combined with unforgettable driving experiences in a variety of memorable landscapes.

The small-scale Bentley speciality travel series will cover the UK, New Mexico and Scandinavia and with more locations to be announced throughout 2023.

Each Extraordinary Journey ranges from three to five days of epic, scenic driving, with overnight stays in unique, luxury accommodation.

Sustainable, seasonal and locally sourced produce will be served to guests throughout the programs. Discovery, design, architecture, wellbeing and relaxation will form a key part of each journey.

Each journey will be an immersive experience in the culture of the area and feature local experiences.

The Scandinavian Extraordinary journey will take in the very best of Copenhagen as Denmark celebrates its Year of Architecture.

It will involve various private dining and wellness experiences, exclusive access to the BIG architecture and design studio, as well as a takeover of one of the finest design hotels.

Marking a driving change to smaller country roads surrounded by great scenery, guests will enjoy lunch at Lake Vättern in southern Sweden.

This will be followed by a night at a five-star Forest Hotel – luxurious treehouse suites that combine a full wellness experience with forest dining from a chef who specialises in sustainable Nordic cuisine.

“We want to share with our customers and fans an extraordinary journey of discovery offering access to usually private and exclusive experiences that only Bentley can provide,” said Caren Jochner, Global Head of Brand Experience at Bentley Motors.

“We have worked closely with globally like-minded partners that share our passion for excellence whether it be in the field of cuisine, design, architecture, or wellness – all with sustainability at heart.

“This, coupled with our carefully curated driving experiences provides something truly unique – an Extraordinary Journey and once in a lifetime experience that offers the opportunity to connect you with like-minded souls – an experience money alone can’t buy.”

EIGHT WAYS TO LOVE LUXURY ON THE LAKE

YOU DON’T have to leave Australia to sit in the lap of luxury.

An easy 90-minute drive from Sydney, Lake Macquarie has a luxe side made for perfect proposals and glam getaways.

Here are eight ways to luxe it up on and around the Lake.

Sail the lake in serious style

Explore Australia’s largest saltwater lake onboard a modern 48-foot yacht with Sail Lake Macquarie, located at Trinity Point.

Choose from a breakfast cruise, twilight sailing, romantic cruise or a private yacht charter. All sailings include the expert services of a skipper and host – so you can sit back and indulge in unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks accompanied by a chef-prepared grazing board.

Fancy a longer stay on the lake? Then grab your family, friends and fishing gear and stretch out in style on board a 45-foot houseboat from Lake Macquarie Houseboats.

Divine dining

Dine at 8 at Trinity restaurant located only a few steps away from the water’s edge at Morisset Park. This modern contemporary dining experience is renowned for dishing up cuisine and cocktails with over-the-top garnishes.

The restaurant’s interiors resemble those of a seaside Mediterranean resort – and you can even arrive by boat or take a seaplane to fly then dine.

For a day of utter indulgence, take a day trip to dine at 8 at Trinity with Sydney Seaplanes from Rose Bay’s Seaplane Terminal.

It’s a four-and-a-half-hour experience for six people including a scenic flight over Sydney Harbour followed by views over Palm Beach, Terrigal and The Entrance en route to dinner.

For the ultimate in laidback luxury, Luxe Lakeside picnics is the perfect pick.

Themes include the rustic chic La Boheme, the Positano-inspired Amalfi Azure (BYO limoncello), the sophisticated House of Hamptons, the playful pastel-hued Candyland Chic, the Sand Islands Picnic, or the She Said Yes – the ideal choice for proposals, anniversaries or romantic moments.

You can even combine a picnic with activities including wine tasting, scenic flights and coastal cruises.

Stunning spots

Lake Macquarie is home to some of the state’s best Airbnb’s.

Highland is a waterfront poolside property set on the shores of the lake and ideal for guests who want a spacious and relaxing getaway with all the modern conveniences – and picturesque views from almost every room.

The property can accommodate large families, extended families and friends consisting of five bedrooms sleeping a comfortable total of 10 adults.

Located seconds from Trinity Point Marina, Trinity Point Luxe Townhouse is a contemporary waterfront property which sleeps eight.

Featuring a chef’s kitchen with marble island, ducted air-conditioning and three deluxe bathrooms, it’s the ideal option to settle into after a long lunch at 8 at Trinity.

Want to arrive in similar style but prefer your thrills on land? The team at Lake Macquarie Prestige Hire Cars can arrange a chauffeured joyride or transfer to your table in a rare Ferrari 458 Aperta, Ferrari 360 Modena, or BMW M2C5.

LENS LIFTS THE LID ON LUXURY LIFE

A NEW ‘fly on the cabin’ documentary series will take viewers behind the scenes on one of the world’s greatest luxury ships.

Maritime Masters: Expedition Antarctica will showcase life onboard Scenic Eclipse, described as the world’s first discovery yacht.

Produced by Warner Bros. Discovery, the five-part series was unveiled at a special media event in Sydney as the company also celebrated the launch of Scenic Eclipse II in Europe.

The documentary will look at daily life onboard the company’s ultra-luxury yacht from the perspectives of crew and guests.

Viewers will meet key members of the ship’s staff including Captain Erwin Le Rouzic, Tom Götter, Director of Food and Beverage, and Jason Flesher, Expeditions Operations Director.

“Warner Brothers had the vision to do something that was authentic and show real life behind the scenes of how ultra luxury can be delivered by a passionate, professional crew in remote locations to a very discerning clientele,” said Anthony Laver, Scenic Group General Manager Sales and Marketing APAC, in an interview with Traveltalk.

The first episode premieres in Australia on May 14 on Discovery Channel on Foxtel and will air internationally from mid-May with content available in 20 languages.

Mr Laver added that the arrival of Scenic Eclipse II in Australia next year would be a testament to the dedication of company boss Glen Moroney.

“Glen is not just an extraordinary businessman, but he’s also now a shipbuilder,” Mr Laver told Traveltalk.

“It’s almost a dream for Glen that on April 20 next year she’ll be in Sydney and then shortly after a few days later in Newcastle on what will be close to the 40th anniversary of Scenic group.

“The sense of pride to come home would be, I think, for him extraordinary.”

Mr Laver added that a lot of cruise companies were now adding luxury features to their ships in order to attract that particular section of the market.

“But we’ve kept it as an intimate experience. You’re not going to get cabaret shows with 100 people on stage. You’re going to get discovery team leaders talking about penguin colonies.

“It’s immersive, it’s authentic and it’s quite unique.”

Guest feedback has been used in the design of Scenic Eclipse II, improving on the original build in several areas. The internal furnishings and the wellness facilities have been upgraded, new bars have been added and the pool has been reimagined.

“For Glen and us it’s a vision that has come true. He always knew he wanted to build one discovery yacht but one ship can’t do the whole world.

“We’ve now got one ship that’s going to do one side of the world and Scenic Eclipse II doing Oceania, Australia and the Pacific.”

“The launch of Scenic Eclipse II is an absolute milestone in the history of the company.”
