Slap bang in the middle of Melbourne’s bustling financial district, Oaks Melbourne on Market is 20+ floors of smart, comfy and ultra- functional studios, and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Far away from the hustle down below, the accommodation at the Oaks is a welcome respite as well as an amazing central spot for all that classy Melbourne has to offer.

World-class shopping, dining and cultural offerings are only a few blocks away. The hotel is also less than half a kilometre from Southern Cross Station, the terminal for Melbourne’s airport SkyBus.

If you are on one of the top floors the Melbourne skyline views are quite spectacular.

My one-bedroom apartment revels in an uncluttered palette of white, deep grey and blonde wood. It is bright with full windows showcasing a great view of the city and feels airy and spacious.

There’s a king-sized bed, a small kitchenette with a very cozy lounge area and I am delighted by a full size bathtub having been pounding the streets below all day! There is also a desk so there is no excuse for me to not get on with some work.

The carpets and custom sofas are a modern muted grey with white walls featuring abstract Melbourne images by prolific photographer Matt Irwin.

All rooms feature a huge 52-inch television, iPod docking station and cordless phone with conference call function.

Tons of functionality with everything you need for a productive and comfortable stay.

There are more USB ports than I can shake a stick at…and they are all in the right places. Plus, Wi-Fi is free for a limited time.

The stylish lobby bar-cum-eatery is a sophisticated mix of timber slats and charcoal hues with an industrial-style bar. A great place to relax with a cocktail or a coffee.

The casual, modern bar-restaurant offers good-value lunches and more elaborate dinners with an international buffet for breakfast.

In room dining is available if you would rather relax in the comfort of your room with the big telly.

There is a stylish heated indoor pool with a recently extended fitness centre featuring Technogym equipment. And after all that hard work there is a sauna and a spa to relax and recover.

The staff are professional and super-friendly. The on-duty receptionist went out of her way to give me great tram route directions.

A fab property for both leisure and business.
