Reports of a large balloon drifting towards Auckland International Airport, as well as sightings of a drone meant arrivals into New Zealand’s largest airport were delayed for around 20 minutes on Tuesday evening.

“Police received a report of a drone high in the air, in flight airspace near Flat Bush,” a Police spokesperson told Traveltalk.

“Police also received a report of a large balloon drifting towards the Auckland Airport, reported around Clendon Park, Police did areas and checked cameras but did no sight anything.”

Air New Zealand said it had been alerted by the airport that a drone had been seen in the airport’s surrounding airspace.

Auckland International Airport has been contacted for comment.

Police have referred the matter to the Civil Aviation Authority.
