You’ll need a good head for heights in a new hotel that’s just opened on the cliffs above Izumo in Shimane Prefecture.

All rooms at Hotel the Cliff are built into the cliff face around 10 metres above the beach below, offering close-up views of the waves and across the vast Sea of Japan.

Described as eight private “cave” rooms, each one features a private terrace with a hot tub overlooking the ocean, while the Garb Cliff Terrace restaurant serves guests a seasonal seven-course dinner while they enjoy panoramic views.
