Passengers onboard an AirAsia flight from Perth to Indonesia reportedly screamed in panic after a power outage on the aircraft before its departure in the early hours of Thursday morning local time.
Flight QZ533 was scheduled to leave Perth when it was struck by “a minor technical issue” according to the airline.
Some passengers were reportedly crying and upset, and 17 of those decided to get off the plane before it took off.
Its departure was delayed by just over an hour while an engineering assessment took place.
“We thank all passengers for their cooperation and understanding during this situation. Indonesia AirAsia understands that this may cause inconvenience to all passengers,” an airline spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au in a statement.
“However, this decision was made to ensure the safety and security of passengers and crew.”
“We wish to confirm that at no time was safety at any risk, the aircraft had not left the airport, oxygen and back up lighting were on throughout the cabin.”
